Great for projects and crafts
I bought this after a science class project where we learned about stars and how we can tell what gasses are in the stars using diffraction to separate the light spectrum into its separate components. I don't know if this material can actually do that same thing, but either way it was a fun buy and I made lots of fun projects like glasses, a computer case side panel, and others. Even if it's not the same scientific material that inspired me to originally purchase this item, it's been fantastic.

Picture is deceiving!
Very small. It's wrapped around itself to the diameter of a dime, no cardboard center.

Easily cut to size and mounted to make custom gratings for spectroscopy
This actually worked out really well. Try to avoid touching it as fingerprint oils can fill in the fine grooves in the diffraction grating (which would make that spot work more like clear plastic than prismatic diffraction material).I used this (along with card stock) to make a large diffraction grating for use in front of gas tubes to show the emission lines. It came in a roll which was then packed in a bag -- no wrinkles, creases, etc. (I suspect some reviews are for the single sheets vs. the roll.)

High quality diffraction grating.
High quality diffraction grating. Shows line emission spectra clearly. Helpful tip: When using, wear gloves or minimize handling with naked fingers, as oils from your skin will negatively impact the grating. It is still definitely usable with finger-oils, but the aesthetics of the grating look 'dirty'.

Great Window Installation
Have this installed in my window and love seeing the rainbow dance around the room as the sun goes up and down.

Diffraction Grating: Essentially little Diffraction
I have been using diffraction grating materials for over 30 years. I am a Ph. D. chemist. This material turned out to be useless for me. Looking at a light source such as a He or Ne spectral tube there is essentially no separation of lines in a spectra. I found this material to be of no use and a waste of my money. I should have returned the material shortly after buying it; my fault.

Did not work well for my application
While this was not what I thought I was ordering, the fault is mine in that regard. I thought I was buying the dual axis diffraction film, but I now realize that the "linear" in the title means that it only diffracts across a single axis. This made it unsuitable for the art project I had in mind. However, even if it *had* been dual axis, I found that the high density of lines on this film also worked against me. I thought that 1,000 lines/mm would lead to a more stunning effect than the 13,500 lines/inch glasses I had previously experienced, but I now plan to order the latter density in dual axis. I don't know whether this truly merits docking one star, because the product is exactly as described and phenomenal at doing what it is advertised to do, but I feel that those who wish to use it for purposes other than scientific demonstration need indicators that there are better options.

Awesome product but pricey
Very fun to work with, be careful not to get it dirty as I've yet to figure out a way to clean it...
