Excellent product with great calming properties

We are very big fans of Adaptil products and have used them for all of our dogs over the years. We keep the plugins going around times when fireworks and thunderstorms are likely. Our Greyhound was terrified of loud noises, and the Adaptil Plugin gives 30 days of relief and a great calming effect without creating a noticeable smell for humans. They are very easy to use as you just fit them into a conventional 3-pin plug and allow them to work until the unit needs a refill. They just look like an ordinary air freshener in the socket. We position ours near the dog's be,d which gives him maximum releif.

Extremely dangerous, toxic and bad for environment

We read the good reviews and thought we’d try this for our anxious dog. I work from home and he sits with me in my office, so I plugged one in there. After a while I developed eye irritation which got worse and worse. I didn’t correlate the diffuser and my eyes for a while, but when the penny dropped, I looked at the information sheet (which I’d previously ignored, as you do) They contain hydrocarbons, which are really bad for the environment! Also, there are danger warnings about its toxicity. It mentions danger to the respiratory tract and ingestion and if swallowed, immediately call a poison centre! It doesn’t mention eye irritation, only when it talks about the ADAPTIL Transportation spray, where in bold, it states CAUSES SERIOUS EYE IRRITATION! If it’s caused irritation to my eyes, has it hurt my dog too?It also states that you should dispose of contents/container at hazardous or specialist waste collection points! Who ever reads all this information and just puts it in the recycling? As much as I adore my dog and want him to have the best life, I didn’t notice any change in his behaviour! My vet had even recommended I try ADAPTIL! We also got the collar for him! I can’t say these products worked at all but I’m seriously concerned that well meaning dog owners will buy this but not realise the toxic fumes they are pumping into their own homes and environment. I took the diffuser out when I realised and slowly my eyes have improved! We’ve been away this weekend and completely forgot about my eyes, until we got home and they started stinging again! So, the pollutant is still in our house, despite unplugging it about 3 weeks ago. I’m now going to try washing the walls. I’ve contacted Amazon and I will be contacting ADAPTIL.Please think seriously about using this product, especially if you have young children: ā€˜MAY BE FATAL IF SWALLOWED AND ENTERS AIRWAYS’! Also, your pets can’t tell you if their eyes hurt and what if they are chewers? I’ve been through so many bottles of eye drops, he may have suffered in silence! It’s not right!Worst product ever, I’d like to see the data from their clinical trials? Seriously dangerous and shouldn’t be on the market!

Pretty Pointless

I have 4 dogs that are scared of fireworks, 1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier Female, 1 Whippet Female and 2 Whippet Males. My oldest Whippet boy, Reg, has never been a problem with it but has developed an absolute panic for the last 3 years running. It is so bad with him that last new years eve I thought he is having a heart attack as his heart was beating so fast and he was boiling hot, dribbling and panting like mad, when he is in this state there is no helping him, he wants to hide but also know what’s going on, he doesn’t want to cuddle, or god forbid he will not take any treats, not even the best of the best of treats. So needless to say, that I would do anything to make these dreadful events more pleasant for him (and the others) I’ve tried numerous things in the past from Bach drops to Vet prescribed calming medication and now this year I have tried Adaptil. I have so say, I started with the diffuser in September (working towards Bonfire Night), in addition Reg had also an Adaptil Collar and for the day I have bought some Adaptil Express tablets. So, this is my and Reg’s story: Bonfire Night went relatively smooth, however Reg was still very scared and in panic. Everyone had in addition to the diffuser also one of the tablets. Reg was the only one really worried. Now, leading up to New Year, we are in an unfortunate area where there are fireworks on and off and there is no way of predicting it, basically it can happen every evening at any time. And therefore it is too late to give the tablets as it needs to be 2 hours before the event. I am reluctant to give him pills for a whole month just on the chance, so he was ok-ish with the collar and the diffuser as long as there was only one bang or the noise was in the distance, my other scared babies were pretty much ok, still alert but no panic. New Years eve all my worry pots had a pill at 5PM (keeping in mind another can be given after 6 hours) so my plan was to give Reg another at 11PM to ā€œkeep him topped upā€. Fireworks and Bangers started here just before 6pm, which completely messed everything up. Well it was useless, the staffie girl was ok after a few hours and appeared spaced out, so were the other Whippets, my Whippet girl actually slept until midnight despite some bangers and whistlers going on directly outside, but my Reg was out of his mind. So, I had to do another night shift trying to calm him down by keeping calm myself. The summary is: if your dog is just a tad worried the Adaptil will do something, if you have a total panic going on then Adaptil won’t help either. The best is to take them for the longest walk ever, make them as tired as possible, lots of positive experiences during the day of the fireworks and then hope for the best when it all starts. Save the money people, you are better off spending the money on some lovely treats for the day before and after!
