Does everything it should and easy to operate

I wanted to check batteries I had bought online, that were sent to me loose and without the box for them. This Dostmann worked perfectly and I think was the best looking one out of a range on Amazon, it seems sturdy and with it being designed oblong and small, it fits in the battery storage box neatly. I am glad I bought this one.

I have had several battery testers in the past including multimeters. The problem has always been that the displays have either been too basic and vague or in the case of multimeters - accurate but you have to compare the voltage reading with what is acceptable and what is not.The things I particularly like about this are the build quality, the digital display showing voltage down to 1/100th of a volt along with a bar graph showing the state of charge and all this without needing a battery to power it (using the battery being tested) with older ones I have owned I needed a AAA battery and you are always wondering if the battery is still up to the job.The build quality and finish of the tester is top drawer.It ain't cheap but it ain't disappointing either.Highly recommended item and I don't thing anyone who buys it will be disappointed with their choice.

Compact and easy to use. The display showing both actual voltage and level bars is very helpful. Comparing measured voltages of numerous batteries with a trusted multimeter it appears to read slightly lower but close enough (e.g. 1.57 vs 1.59 for a 1.5V battery, 9.62 vs 9.65 for a 9V battery). Certainly good enough for a quick check and more convenient than using the multimeter.However, when using the 3V setting for button cells I got anything from 85% to 97% of the voltage measured by the multimeter, e.g. a brand new CR2032 measuring 3.29V on my multimeter measured only 2.89V on this tester, but then a 3.14V CR2032 also measured 2.89V on the tester and a 3.04V CR123A (camera battery) measured 2.96V. I don't know if I got a defective one or if they all suffer this issue, perhaps from poor contact with button cells.

I initially bought the TFA Dostmann Battery Checker, because unlike 99% of the other battery checkers that just give you three quick readings of 'good', 'weak' and 'empty', The TFA gives you four quick readings. So it already gives you more information about all the batteries around the house. It then backs that up with a proper digital meter, to give you the exact voltage remaining in the cell. The build quality is excellent and the meter feels good in the hands. The orange battery holder arm is held closed when not in use, and opens with a click. The arm extends smoothly and has no slop in it. The arm is thick plastic and feels strong enough to last for years of use. The meter itself is quite fun to use. You select the battery category using the orange triangle. When the battery holder arm is closed, to make contact with the battery being tested, the digital meter gives an instant voltage reading to two decimal places. A battery symbol then appears to the right of the digital display and begins filling with energy bars from zero up to one of the four corresponding battery condition labels. The 'OK' and 'Weak' conditions even have multiple energy bars, so you can see exactly what condition the battery is in. It is a well made device, that tells you everything the average battery user needs to know. Just remember that AA and AAA rechargeable batteries are 1.2V, not 1.5V.

Good results compared to my professional multimeter, other cheaper digitals are up to 0.3V out. Nice compact size and clever design.
