HFS(R) Hydraulic Wire Terminal Crimper Battery Cable Lug Crimping Tool W/Dies(10 ton)

Bought to do crimp connections for larger sizes. I use it for anything above 6mm cable. Is really sturdy and makes the big connections very easily. I confess I don't get to use it every week so it is not getting a hammering, but I have had it for about 18 months now and it is still working very well. One of those "when you need it, nothing else does the job" tools.

First it must be said that at this price the machine is remarkably good value. I have seen obviously identical kits priced elsewhere at up to £140!I have only used the comparatively small dies for which it was perfectly adequate. A previous reviewer commented that the die location could be more precise, and this is true but with care very neat and acceptable results are possible.My only serious issue is with the instructions - not so much the use of the device - but the instructions for maintenance and oil top up. These are incomprehensible or so incomplete to be useless. The online link which might have helped takes you to a US tool store with no obvious relevance. A pity because otherwise a great bargain

You need to use a die size down and some of the dies’ get stuck and you cannot get them out! Very disappointingHad for nearly a year but seldomly used. Its not worth all the effort

It is easier to use than my 16 ton model as it is lighter. I used it to crimp a 35mm^2 multi stand very flexible cable. Using the 35mm die the lug was not tightened sufficiently. I went down to the next die size and then down one more size which achieved a satisfactory connection.Construction is well made and good value. I also have ratchet crimpers but the hydraulic crimper produces a far better joint. As others have said before it left a thin wedge of metal either side when I used smaller dies to achieve a tight fit. It resulted in a pleasant good looking, serviceable joint.

The crimper is heavy but for the price isn't bad value. Would be better if there was a seal kit available to repair if the seals were to give way as there is no safety pressure relief valve like on the cembre ones

I have used this on 2mm stainless wire rope ferrules extensively and it has not let me down at all. You get consistent crimps and the unit shows no sign of wear or cracks.
