MTECH USA MT-588 Fixed Blade Knife Series

I needed a sharp smaller blade with a sheath that had a clip. This is perfect size, nice and sharp, bonus of finger hole placement, double bonus of sheath having a chain that can be removed or added when needed. I would have liked to get the black one instead but this one is very pretty.

Great Knife for conceal carry around neck, however the chain supplied with this knife is junk. It will break super easy. So I went online and researched and ordered 6 or 7 different black 3.0mm chains. I found one I liked that was 3.2mm and fits the holes on the knife case well and the chain is durable. You may want to reconsider paracord because someone could use it against you to choke you. This chain will break away but you need force! Much better than the chain they sent with knife. The chain we ordered was 3.2mm (Glossy Black) and has a nice coating which makes the chain feel better around your sweaty neck.Look for the following chain set on Amazon:2.4-4mm Stainless Steel Black Ball Chain Necklace for Men Women, 3Pcs Beaded Military Chains for Men, Dog Tag Chain Necklaces Set, 18-30 InchWe chose the 30" length which fit perfectly with perfect placement for both me and my wife when wearing this conceal carry knife under or above your clothing on both male and female. (ages 57 & 61) (5' 5" and 5' 8"). I tried about 6 or 7 different dog chains and the above link worked perfectly. Now there are three chains in the kit for whichever size you order (We ordered 30"). the larger 3.2mm chain worked and felt the best of ALL our choices. Looked the best and was the most durable while remaining flexible for use as a neck knife. Great for the wife when she goes on walks and great for me as a backup knife. With the above dog tag chain (in same black color) it looks nice and you forget it is there. Hope this helps others who love the knife but hate the chain!

I have been into the sword (Kendo, Kenjutsu, and Wakizashi Jutsu) and knife blade arts (Tanto-Jutsu, Arnis, Machete training, Military knife handling) for most of my life. I have practiced, used and carried numerous types of blades over the years. One of the kinds of knives I have carried over the years included various kinds of neck knives.When I saw this neck knife (MTech USA MT-588BK, fixed blade neck knife, black blade and grenade style handle) on Amazon for a reasonable price I purchased it. I will have to mention that I thought the knife would be a little larger (Blade is only about 2 inches long with a very sharp point and the total length is only 4 ½ inches) than it is. Nevertheless, it also comes with a neck chain. I began wearing it and began to practice pulling it from the strong solid hard sheath. It comes out quickly and the locking mechanism holds the knife securely.The grenade like handle and the finger hole made this little knife easy to handle, but I would not call this a combat blade because it has many limitations; however, this could be a good emergency self-defense weapon when you do not have any other self-defense tool available at the time. Personally I actually prefer a more effective weapon if I am forced to defend myself. These may include a gun, a large combat knife, a sword, a baseball bat, an axe handle and one of my favorite weapons the machete.I do like this little neck knife but just keep in mind that its use is very limited as compared to other self-defense weapons and tools.Rating: 4 Stars. I gave this 5 stars because it is great at being what it is and doing what it's meant for but a few things you need to know.#1 most important. This item is NOT A KNIFE.It's not designed nor intended to be used as a knife. If your looking for a neck knife at the same price point, I recommend the (MTech 20-30). That's a knife.#2 when you first get this item, it is extremely hard to remove it from the sheath but it will get easier once the sheath wears in.#3 the chain it comes with is garbage, throw it away and add your own cordage.#4 I see a lot of complaints about its sharpness, again, it's not a knife. It's design and shape does the work and the sharpness, steel quality and edge retention doesn't matter. I've tested this on several tin cans without damage.....well.....it did dull the ridiculously sharp point a little.#5 if you hold it correctly your finger will probably fit.#6 if you think you know how to properly use this, you probably don't. Keep in mind it's not a knuckle duster ring and using that way will probably break your finger.#7 for whatever reason you buy this, be careful because it has the potential to cause serious injury.

for a $10 knife you don't expect much, but I like these little knives for the following reason:1. They're extremely small - they fit in the palm of your hand.2. The clip included allows you to clip it onto your waist or belt and after a few minutes, you barely know it's there.3. The cost is reasonable.4. The knife is very sharp.5. The case is pretty good except for one problem: the clip is held by two very flimsy screws. With any kind of rough handling those screws come loose. if you're handy, this might not be a problem. I'm sure you could find a way to fix that.

Not bad for the price, but be aware that it is difficult to pull out of the sheath. I have to leave it sticking out about half way, enough to get my finger through the hole and pull. It won't fall out of the sheath, but the belt clip is very weak, and I have to consistently adjust it down or else it falls of my belt after time with movements. Lastly, the chain that it comes with is extremely cheap and reacts with sweat. After about 5 days on constant use in a humid environment, it started to stain my neck green. The blad itself isn't sharp, but it is very pointy, as it is meant more for piercing than cutting, but that's an easy fix. Overall for the price it's not bad, just a few adjustments needed.
