Works well with SSD & Full size 3.5 inch traditional hard drives, on PC, Mac and Raspberry Pi
I wanted to build a filer server (NAS) for my office network, mainly because I was interested in using a simple Raspberry Pi with the Linux operating system, using OpenMediaVault to result in an easy to use, customisable file server (NAS)One of the problems with this is that you need to connect the drive to the Pi with USB, and many of the cheap hard drive controllers that many USB Sata hard drive interfaces use are unreliable or plain do not work well.I knew I would need 3 of these types of adapters in total, so thought I would buy a selection of ones which where also powered (USB cant really power up a traditional hard drive well), so as they are mostly cheap, I thought I would buy a selection. One from Orico, One from Startech and this one from Unitek. The StarTech and this one from Unitek both work great... The one from Orico unfortunately not only did it not work properly (it caused numerous communication errors) but also it managed to damage two hard drives (one Samsung 1TB and one Seagate 4TB drives during formatting, to the point they could not be recovered even by trying to re-partition and format them from the command line in a desktop PC! (Avoid the Orico, I am returning it and will leave a review for it also!)Anyway, this one is great, I have also used it via USB on my PC and Mac, and it just works well... I have just ordered another one to keep in my IT toolbox for whenever I need to quickly plug in a SATA drive.Oh one last thing... The speed on this one and the Startech is absolutely breathtakingly good!

Easy to use Value for money
I normally don't leave reviews for anything but on this occasion I felt it was warranted.I had an external Hard Drive fail on me and this had everything on it and I was expecting a hassle and installing of extra software and setting up with this device. This simply wasn't the case and it was straightforward plug and play with the hard connected to the device it popped straight up and with 10-15 mins everything I needed had been recovered.Bravo excellent product at a fraction of the cost of getting someone else to do this.Thoroughly recommend to all

Didn't resolve the problem I originally purchased it for
Works fine with SSD's, but I originally purchased it so I could connect a sata blu-ray DVD to my pc, as it hasn't got the facility to fit it internally. Sadly, no matter what I tried, the Win10 pc will not recognize it.

Simple operation and did as described
Worked perfectly and was simple to operate too which is a huge bonus for me rather than spending hours downloading drivers and getting compatability issues, refreshing to buy some tech which plugged in, connected old hardwire and the content was displayed.

Unitek SATA to USB 3.0, SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Converter
What a fantastic product! I thought I'd lost all my personal files and music from a dead pc tower desktop. I Googled how to take out the hard drive and felt anxious when I plugged in the hard drive adapter to my new laptop whether it would work or not - but lo and behold within a short while I could see Users folder on the computer and there were all my files, desktop items, music etc. Was so happy! Saved tons of money on trying to get my dead desktop tower repaired which would have cost bundles. So pleased I Googled USB Hard Drive Adapters which lead me to look on Amazon.

Very handy adapter
I have many spare SATA HDDs and SSDs. This adapter is very useful for utilising them.Speed is not brilliant, but acceptable.

Great item used to power a internal blu ray playerThat unfortunately would not fit a new pc case.

Not for Linux based OSes and perhaps a little too flimsy.
Simple, if a little flimsy: OK for a temporary setup; for permanent use one should carefully consider where the drive will be situated.**BUT non windoze/mac users beware**Avoid this product if your device is Linux based. I bought this to attach to my Raspberry Pi as part of a minidnla home media server. Transferring data from my laptop to a 2TB SSD disk via this interface was painfully slow. This turns out to be because of a generic conflict in UAS support for certain ASMedia SATA 6TB to USB3 bridges and the Linux kernel. Many of the ASMedia chips appear to need their own specific patch to the Linux kernel/module code. The work around for me was to drop(blacklist) the "uas" SuperSpeed module. Then reboot, and subsequently the drive mounts via the generic usb-storage module: so some hacking and you can make it appear as a ~480Mb/s device instead of the advertised ~5Gb/s. Not ideal but workable until you can source a better USB3-SATA device. In the end I did buy a different interface which included a robust housing for the disk. I've filed this purchase under "Purchase Errors" and put the device in the pile to go to the charity shop.
