New to solar? Buy this book.
This book was all I needed to help me go from zero knowledge to building a small backup solar system for my home. It was a fun project where I learned a handful of useful skills. The author gets right to the point on must subject matter so you can dive right in.His Youtube videos are helpful as well. Go check those out as well.

Excellent Technical Guide for Solar Planning & Design!
This book gave me exactly what I had been looking for! I've read many web articles for basic information to design and build my own solar system for simple projects. But some of the details I've been wanting have escaped me. This book did a great job filling in the technical details I'd been looking for!For example, on solar controllers, I'd read many similar descriptions on the difference between PWM and MPPT controller technologies for solar-charging batteries. But I could find nothing on the exact details of what a "Max Power Point" represents (in an MPPT controller) and how determining and measuring this helps the controller be more efficient than PWM. The author's descriptions and charts in the chapter "Different Charge Controllers" gave me exactly what I wanted to know, in relatively simple terms for a beginner. The chapter on "Selecting a Charge Controller" also gave me the details on why a 24V solar panel works better with MPPT controllers for charging a 12V battery in less-than-ideal sun conditions. The MPPT controller I ended up buying recommended a 24V solar panel (or series pair) for that controller with a 12V battery, and this section of the book gave me a good description for why. All stuff I didn't know I needed to know for even my simple solar projects! So, in addition to providing convenient refreshers and handy formulas on basic electronics needed for my projects, this book provided me answers to questions I had on selecting the right combination of solar panel(s) and controllers to get my projects working correctly!Great reference guide and tutorial book!

a good intro book on DIY solar projects
A good practical book to learn basics about the solar system components, how to design and plan a new system, and how to calculate the rating of components you will need. It gives some advice on what is good and what is not, without advertising any specific product. I wish it had more examples of real life systems with more specific examples electrical diagrams: a 100W system, a 500W system, a 1000W system... with more exact detail of how the connections are made (buses, circuit breakers, AWG of the wires and connectors). Maybe it can have an online site with more examples and pictures of professionally built systems. Just as a suggestion. I recommend this book.

Detailed book on solar power
For a non expert this book offers a lot of information about electricity and solar panel use. I feel it is a moving target to recommend solar panel purchase at this time. However, provided a wealth of information for basic research on the topic.

Too complicated.
We wanted something simpler to understand. We had to return the panels but kept the book only because we did read it.We need something more basic.

Good first source.
I don't know a lot about configuring solar energy systems, but this seemed to satisfy my curiosity.
