If you regularly airbrush acrylics, then this is the airbrush for you

I’ve owned and used airbrushes made by Badger (pretty good but some parts quickly wore out), Harder & Steenbeck (frustrating & troublesome with acrylics) and an Iwata Neo (at the budget end of the range and just OK), but this Iwata Eclipse HP-CS is the best airbrush I ever used bar none.My experience with this airbrush is almost exclusively with acrylics by Humbrol, Tamiya, Gunze and Vallejo Air but also occasionally with enamels. One specific feature of the HP-CS is the 0.35mm needle and nozzle, quite large for fine detailing but OK if you reduce the air pressure below 15psi. However, the big benefit of the 0.35mm needle/nozzle is that it never – and I do mean NEVER – blocks when using acrylics. You don’t even need to mix-in flow improver (brilliant product BTW) or thinners, though this helps achieve a fine-coat finish. The only airbrush I ever used before which didn’t block was a Badger, but that needed thorough cleaning between paints and some parts needed replacing after a few months. The second great feature of this Eclipse HP-CS airbrush is the integrated 1/3oz cup seamlessly welded into the airbrush body, so it can’t be removed by screwing it off. The HP-C range has this larger 1/3 oz cup, the HP-B a 1/16 oz cup and the HP-A just a small 1/32 oz recess for tiny amounts.Cleaning is a breeze because despite the high precision manufacture and quality finish, there aren’t too many parts and due to the very short distance between cup and nozzle you don’t need to dismantle it to clean out the nozzle; in short, very low maintenance and quick to change between colours.Unconditionally recommended.

great

I had a cheap spray gun at first and was told by a friend to buy a decent one. After quite a bit of research I chose this Iwata and the verdict is simple, these things are brilliant. Put paint in, point, pull trigger and hey presto you're a painter. I'm not kidding these things are professional and will show you how you should be using a spray gun. Do not hesitate, (yes I know you're thinking it's too expensive), it's NOT, this will save you time and money in the long run because out of the box, (after a quick initial clean), these things work perfectly, not good, but perfectly. I wish I had bought these when I first started to try spray painting, I would have saved months of anguish.

You get what you pay for

Months ago I bought a cheap £30 airbrush from Amazon, as a start of a new hobby, painting pictures and models. I watched a ton of YouTube videos on using and cleaning airbrushes, then got some Acrylic, premixed and thinned airbrush paint (Createx brand). I just couldn't get that cheap airbrush to work right. Sputtering, on/off flow, stopping and starting again rather than a smooth flow. Tried cleaning it, and polishing the needle. Still rubbish. So I ordered the Iwata Eclipse, which arrived today. Straight out of the box, it worked perfectly. Smooth flow, no sputtering. I even mananged a few exercises, drawing eyes, spheres and cubes. From a fine 1mm line to a wide 1.5 inch line, perfect results. Easy to clean, too. It doesn't come with a fine spanner to remove the tiny nozzle, as it is designed to be cleaned without doing that fiddly and risky job. One large spanner (included) is all you need. Comes with oil for lubricating the mechanism, too. Another good sign of quality is that each airbrush is tested, and the test sheet is included in the box. So my advice is to not bother getting cheap airbrushes, even if you're a beginner. They are nothing but a headache that will put you off the hobby. Get an Iwata or one of the other top brands.

I'm one of those modellers who doesn't actually model nearly as much as he's like so this was a questionable outlay

Okay, I'm one of those modellers who doesn't actually model nearly as much as he's like so this was a questionable outlay. I have one of those cheap knock-offs already so I didn't know whether this would live up to the hype. It does, 100%. I need much more practice, but even straight out of the box, it's SO much better. Action is super smooth and the paint comes out even and smooth. With decent pressure you can pull back and quickly lay down a base coat, with the pressure down (needed at least with my hands) you can get right in and spray ridiculously tight lines. There's a little piece of paper in the box upon which the quality control tester has used your airbrush to check all is well.... I should hope to have such a steady hand :) but man it really shows you what this thing can do.Cleaning is really easy. One thing I had misunderstood reading the revues, even the video ones when I was choosing between this and the Steenbecks, is the nozzle. I had the impression that the nozzle on the Iwata was very small and fiddly. The truth is that only the very tip of the nozzle is like that and you will hardly ever (if ever) need to detach that. The larger nozzle assembly as whole comes off very easily (if you need to do this) and is very easy to handle. Based on you tube videos, I very nearly went for the rival for this reason alone! Here's another thing, just hold this thing in your hand, if you like quality engineering I defy you not to smile. It's just a lovely thing, really it is.

clean regularly

When the acrylic paint is the right consistency this air brush is very good, with very responsive air and paint controls. If the paint does dry in the nozzle, this air brush is very easy to strip and clean.

Superior performer

What can you say other than this is just another excellent example of a product from Iwata. The HP-CS airbrush is a consistently high quality performer and just beats most other airbrushes all the way. It is excellent value for money and simply outperforms most other airbrushes as it is manufactured to such a high quality standard. It is ideal for everyone from beginner to expert and the price tag is well worth it when you compare the results obtained against other brands.

awesome atomized spray, smooth trigger action and feels good in the hand. Easy to maintain. Pencil thin lines achievable with a little practice.

strong consistent spray

i had some issues in the beginning with it clogging but it figured itself out and now it works amazing!! fairly easy to clean, there are some spots that paint likes to hide, but the spray is thick and consistent (so nice!). i do find when i use it i get a mist of paint in the air but thats what my respirator is for

Un jouet très mignon

Sinon, j'ai encore besoin d'un peu de pratique, mais les premières impressions sont bonnes. Je recommande! Le prix est également très raisonnable.
