The Ukulele Songbook: 50 All Time Classics

Lots of good songs. Easy to play. Good for beginners.

The media could not be loaded.  A great book with lots of my favourite songs in it. Excellent value for money. Just got back from a seven week cruise where I learnt to play the Ukelele.This book will greatly compliment the excellent tuition that we had onboard. I can now sing & play every day!

It's for a gift so I haven't delved too much into it, but the songs seem like familiar classics and appear easy to follow with handy tab descriptions. The print is good and clear, with nice quality overall. Nothing bad to say :)

I have no connection to the supplier. Key point: what constitutes a ‘classic’? I couldn’t find a list of contents on Amazon, and the supplier should correct this. Should I expect Beatles or nursery rhymes?All said, high production values and a comprehensive chord chart. Great for a beginner, I believe, yet still useful for guitarists of any type picking up a uke for the first time. Don’t buy until you know what it contains - Twinkle Twinkle might be something for your kids, but you probably won’t find the songs you grew up with.When you have heard someone play ‘Paranoid’ on an electric ukulele, through a fuzz-wah, you have lived.

A reasonable starter book but I've 3 niggles:Firstly there are numbers under each note ranging from 1 to 5 but I've no idea what they mean and the book doesn't explain these.Secondly some of the songs I already can play before I bought this book and the versions here are different chords and in fact don't sound as much like the versions I know which are much easier for beginners chord structures. For instance using chords D, A7, D7 and G you can play When the saints go marching in easily but this books chords are C, G7, F and Fm. A big difference.My third and final complaint is the songs are not in alphabetical order, making finding a song a chore of having to look up the index instead of simply flicking through the book in a logical easy way by letter order.So all in all an ok starter book but could be better hence the 3 stars only.

Ukulele songbook is very good and I like songs that are in the book.

This is the second book of songs I have purchase from this author. The songs are well laid out, no turning pages over half way thru. It covers all bases, play by tab, play by chord, or play the score if you can read notes. The only thing which would make this book better is a soundtrack which would help with the more obscure songs to know how they should sound or even just to play along with.If you are new to the Uke this is one of the books for you, clear to read, useful info on chords and strumming at the end of the book too.I wish I had found it a year ago when I started out instead of buying tuition books with maybe half a dozen songs in at three time the price of this one book.I will be getting volume 2 very soon!

But the pages feel a little cheap for the price paid.Other than my minor gripe at the cost vs paper quality, I'd say buy it. It does what it says.

I am giving a copy of this book to each of my beginning ukulele students. The folk songs may be too old for kids to be familiar with, but with a little help they can figure them out. The print is on thin paper so the book opens flat enough to play from. So far my only complaint is that the chord diagrams are all rotated 90 degrees. I understand what they are trying to do, but the non standard approach may be confusing to students who have been using standard chord diagrams. The arrangements look pretty easy, so great for beginners. Advanced players can dress up the tunes as their skills permit.

Lots of golden oldies. Can't wait to play them.
