Best splitting maul ever !!
If you cut wood and need to split what you've cut like I do then you have got to get one of these !!! I have cut my own wood for use at home during the winter for 30 years. Up until 2 months ago I have always split the 8" up to 24" diameter logs (Oak, Hickory, Ash, Maple, etc) with a double sided splitting axe and could get through 95% of what I hauled back home without too much trouble (roughly 2 cords of wood minimum per season). I debated on getting a log splitter but those can get expensive and are yet another machine to maintain, let alone find space to store it. I thought I'd give this Fiskars 8 lb splitting maul a shot and WOW am I ever glad I did !!! I was a little concerned when it arrived that swinging this thing was going to wear me out as it's got a heavy head and feel to it. I'm only 5' 7" tall and 145lbs. It's quite the opposite of what I thought it was going to be like after I split 6 big 20" diameter Ash rounds and then another 10 Oak rounds about 18" in diameter. This thing -almost effortlessly- splits some of the biggest pieces of wood I've ever split with less effort than I would have exerted with my old double sided splitting axes. I wouldn't suggest trying to split Sycamore but so far there is nothing I've swung this thing at that it hasn't been able to split apart with ease. I only wish I'd bought it 5 years ago !!! Get the 8lb maul over the smaller one, you WILL NOT regret it. I've always enjoyed splitting wood and with this Fiskars 8 lb maul I still enjoy it and look forward to spending a couple hours getting these 150+lb log rounds turned into useable size logs. I'd give this 6 stars if I could. The anti-vibration handle and riveted head to the handle make this a long term no maintenance (no handle replacements needed) tool that will last for years to come.

solid construction and good value
This is a solid upgrade for the Fiskars 36 inch X27 Super Splitting Axe that i have been using for years. It has quite a bit more heft to it so does wear your out quicker but has much more force driving into the the wood and a broader head it you are hitting a splitting awl with it. I still like the x27 but use this when I have larger rounds, need to use it as a sledge hammer. Construction and durability appears to be similar quality to the X27 I have and I feel this offers an excellent value over all and would recommend it to anyone looking for a general purpose wood splitting maul.

This is the way.
A few years ago I lost a wooden mallet while disassembling a full sized deck. Ever since then I've preferred high visibility tools. Hell, even my bath towels are orange. This is my first and I imagine my last maul. Thank you.

Amazing !
Little heavier than my previous splitting maul, but the results far “outweigh” this!! I tried it while helping a friend fall a big fir, he’s been using his Fiskars splitter for years. After just a few swings this was splitting 2 ft rounds like wet Alder. I was amazed. But I shouldn’t have been, I carry a small 24” fiskars axe in my truck for emergencies that swings easy and cuts cleanly, and use Fiskars trimming shears for my roses. Fiskars is a well respected name, and this splitting maul is another true testimony to their strong brand name.Buy it, try it, then swear by it.

Get a wedge too!
This works great! I would suggest picking up a wedge in additional to this. I find that I use the maul portion and wedge on larger logs >6”, axe side on the smaller ones. Great tool to add to the shed for cleaning up the yard.

Best Maul for the Money!
Don’t wait- buy this one. 6lb is that sweet spot to swing all day and let the weight of the head do the work. Great build quality from Fiskars!I originally bought the 6lb maul from Estwing with the wooden handle. One of the reviews said it’s made in America by another company for Estwing- wrong - big sticker says made in India. Second was the wooden handle was way too thick to get a solid grasp, and the head shape doesn’t let us stand up straight.Fiskars got all of this right, handle, head shape, solid. Buy this one.

Very nice splitter
This knocks the socks off of my old school maul. The way the wedge is shaped helps transfer the energy to split the rounds. Only thing that's going to take some getting used to is the grip. Solid tool 👍🏻
