Ugh. I'm a firm believer in preventative maintenance. I also like decent air quality. As such, I regularly change out my air filters based on air handler usage. When I moved to NC and bought an older home, I found that one of my AC units used 12x14" filters (way smaller than I'm used to). Unfortunately, I've found that filter size to be not very popular. I sourced the Aerostar 12x14x1 MERV 11 (6 pack), but I noticed that the odd size is reflected in the surprisingly high price. For reference, the same manufacturer offers filters with DOUBLE the filter material for the same price. Short of modifying my return setup, there's not much I can do.As far as the filters are concerned, they appear to be a mid-grade offering. The filter frame and wire reinforcement are good, but not class-leading. You'll need to take care to not crease the frame as you press-fit the filter past any sheet metal screws in the perimeter of the return door assembly. The filter material seems to be okay - it doesn't seem very restrictive, and it is visually bright enough that you will be able to eyeball accumulation on the filter face. As with any filter without perimeter sealing foam, I recommend taping the perimeter of the Aerostars to prevent any air leakage.Regarding my price-related comments, I will just note that I didn't really see any other 12x14" options that seemed significantly better in terms of price or performance - there just aren't that many options at all. I will look at possibly adapting a 12x24, 14x14, or 14x24 return when I get to the end of this 6-pack, because the prospect of paying $14+ a filter for the next couple decades doesn't sound good to me. I went with MERV 13 for allergy season. These appear to be good. First batch was crushed by UPS. Air Filters Delivered LLC made it right.

They accidentally sent the wrong size initially, but I contacted them and now I have what I ordered. The quality looks good, with wire reinforcement. Good value for the price.
