Great Router for an Awesome Value!

The refurbished router arrived quickly and looks / performs as brand new. All software and accessories are included (the only difference was the box it came in).Mine came with the current firmware, and installation using the provided CD was a cinch (and worked perfectly the first time). I did tweak several settings once the CD install completed, however most users could probably be happy with simply installing and using.I currently have 25Mbps / 5Mbps service, and my speed tests with this router are consistently ~26Mbps / 6Mbps from my family room, located around 20 feet from the router through at least a couple walls and a ceiling (using 2.4Ghz). This is around twice the speed of my old WRT54GS at the same distance. The router is located in my basement office, and I can receive strong signal in our bedroom upstairs and throughout our house (approximately 4600sqft including basement). The 5Ghz doesn't offer anywhere near the range of the 2.4Ghz, which is to be expected (but I may have expected a bit more). The WiFi Analyzer app on my phone shows the 5Ghz strength to be about half that of the 2.4Ghz in the same location in my family room referenced above. The only item I have connected via the 5Ghz band is our family room TV, which seems to connect to and stream video at least as quickly as before. Speed tests from the family room seem to come in the same as the 2.4Ghz band (more on this later), and the TV connects to and streams video at least as fast as the WRT54GS (It's difficult to gauge how much faster it is, as the WRT never had any issues streaming HD video, but the connection to the videos seems substantially quicker). I can connect to 5Ghz in our bedroom upstairs using my phone (I haven't tried my laptop), however it's a very weak signal. As I stated above, with our current service speed the two bands are approximately equal. With that said, our service is the bottleneck here - the router enables us to max out our current service, but theoretically still has a lot more to offer. Our provider will be doubling our speeds either this month or next to 50Mbps / 10Mbps, so I'll be able to give more information on both bands and overall performance when this occurs.I've done a couple trial runs using Gb Ethernet, transferring simple documents and larger data files (videos) between two devices connected directly to the router, and also a wired printer. Document data transfers were instantaneous, larger data files only took a few seconds, and there was absolutely no delay with print jobs.Right now we regularly have two phones, two laptops, and a Bluray player simultaneously connected via 2.4 Ghz WiFi, a TV connected via 5Ghz WiFi and a desktop downstairs wired as a host / server. Often times we have a third laptop running on 2.4Ghz WiFi as well. We've haven't suffered any hiccups or disconnects at all.The Smart Wi-Fi phone app is a really convenient way to control the router (from anywhere, none-the-less). It is lacking a few features that Direct Connect has, so initial setup is best done with a computer. Once the router is setup, however, the app has all the maintenance, tweaking and guest features needed.

Amazing Router for the Price

I have to admit when I was paying for a refurbished product I was a bit skeptical, but this has worked far better then I expected it would, has loads of feutures in the web interface, wireless works great, lan works great.I tested everything as far as I could with my setups, I had to leave it on 2.4Ghz single band though cause 5Ghz dual band unfortunately is not supported by my printer or my moms laptop. My desktop systems are connected via the LAN ports. The signal strength is impressive at 2.4Ghz, I carried my moms laptop around the house and it was anywhere from 60mbit to 150mbit on signal strengh. Be Sure your wireless adapter supports wireless N and configured properly to achieve these speeds.I love that I can proritize the computers internet bandiwidth (I have my main desktop on high priority but set everything else on my network on normal priority)The USB port on it is nice to access a device from any system on the network but keep in mind that the router only supports 1 USB device at a time, when I plugged my 4 hardrive Media Sonic Probox to it it only saw 1 out of 4 hardrives listed. This may be a issue to some but not a issue to me since I was only testing it for this review (I run my media sonic box off ESATA)My old router was a linksys E1200 and kept dropping my connection and wireless, so time will tell how long this EA3500 will last me.The only cons I founds with this router is you can't disable SSID, and you can't put security on guest access for visitors so be sure to have a strong password setup on both your router and 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz network.Overall though I am very very happy about my purchase, this is an excellent router for this refurbished price (I'm tempted to buy a second one just to have on hand for a backup).I highly recommend it.

A bargain, easy install, great 5GHz

I was lucky and received a device that worked fine. I'd been hanging on to a trusty Linksys WRT54G for years but living in a busy neighborhood 802.11g just wasn't cutting it anymore. Out of box the router looked new, and just to be safe, I started installation by performing a factory reset as others suggested here. I have installed a lot of wireless networks, and can say this was hands down the easiest ever. The software is simple, but still provided for customization options. One of the default settings you may want to consider changing is moving the 2.4 GHz channel from "auto" to either 1,6,11, whichever other people around you are using less (google for detail) - this will help reduce interference with neighbors if they live close by. As for speed, this router has given me some improvement over my older model and I no longer experience drop outs or prolonged buffering with streaming video. But on the 2.4 GHz network, the performance increase is moderate (before I was getting average of 5Mbps, now it's 10-18 Mbps). Again, this router solved my buffering issue so I'm happy with it, but 2.4 GHz speed is not impressive (but I do have lots of close neighbors). However, the 5Ghz network reaches fantastic speed at 30-60 Mbps (my ISP limit). Also, in the 1000 sq ft space I installed it in, the 5GHz network is surprisingly accessible everywhere, though signal does reduce one room away. Since not all my devices are compatible with 5GHz I'm using both networks. Overall range has been very good. I've had it for a month now and everything's been working reliably. For 35 bucks this is definitely worth trying out, even if it's not the most powerful router on the market.

Corrupted Firmware

My ten (ten) year old router failed and I couldn't revive, it.This model was actually an upgrade.Plugged it in as soon as I received it and my network wouldn't recognized it.After resetting it it five time it connected to my network but it failed to do so after I unplugged it and placed it on my rack. It appeared once out of every five times I reset it but it was never stable.

Faulty product received

Product received was faulty. The power LED kept constantly blinking, which indicates an issue with the firmware. Attempts factory reset (holding reset button for more than 10, 15, 30 seconds) did not work at all, connecting directly to the router did not work either - LEDs on ethernet ports also did not light up to indicate activity. With no way to fix the issue, returned for refund.

Waste my time

That just waste my time

This device did not meet my expectations

As far as I can determine this router was intended for the US market not the Canadian market. This difference was flagged as a problem by the network diagnostic software in Mac OS High Sierra. Compared to my Linksys 2700 that I bought it toreplace, it frequently loses connections and often has to be rebooted. Waste of time, waste of money, useless.
