Disappointing but still fun for this "MLB The Show" convert
I recently traded in one of my PS3's (and will probably trade in the other one eventually) for an XBox 360 because I tend to enjoy the XBox games more. However, the one sacrifice for this avid baseball fan is going from "MLB The Show" to "MLB 2K". I think MLB The Show is great, but it might be a little too good for my skill level because I seem to have a tough time hitting.Hitting does seem a little easier for me in 2K, and I actually enjoy the pitching mechanics better in 2K as well. However, the presentation and animations need polishing. Some of the screens seem cluttered to the point that you aren't sure what you are looking at or why that information is important.I think my two biggest gripes are the base running and the player likenesses. When coming out of the batter's box in The Show, the runner puts his head down and sprints to first. In 2K, the runner throws his head back and jogs to first. It's like he is running with a refrigerator on his back.As far as the player likenesses are concerned, some look good, but many are pretty bad. The Show definitely does a better job in this department.I know that many people are complaining that this game hasn't changed much since last year. Luckily, I didn't have this game last year. However, you would think they could update the head shots. Chris Stewart was traded to the Yankees during the 2012 Spring Training, and he still has his old cap on in his head shot.Even with these problems, I am having a lot of fun with this game. However, for a company that has the MLB exclusive and has done well with their NBA and old NFL games, you would think they would get it right one day. That one day never seems to come, however. It almost seems like they feel their game is good enough, and there is no need for any changes. Let's hope 2K turns things around now that they renewed their contract with MLB.Wishlist: Legends and old stadiums (I haven't seen either yet) and mini games. I loved the mini games that EA's MVP baseball used to have.

It grew on me.
-Update-I originally rated this game at 3 stars which I now changed to 4 stars. Everything I say in the rest of the review applies, but the thing I realized is since the release date I have played no other game besides this. I'm truly addicted to this game. Iv played already a ton of games in my franchise mode, and to be honest I'm enjoying it. I know it's exactly the same as 2k12, but I loved 2k12. I was hoping for 2k13 to have many new additions and revamped graphics but that's not the case, so I got passed that and just started to enjoy what it is, not what it's not. It's not a great looking game, there may be bugs and exactly the same as 2k12, but we don't have the option to play the show so this is the hand we were dealt. If your a true baseball fan, just get the game. After putting much time into 2k13 I can truly say it is exactly the same as 2k12. Not just similar, with a few upgrades I mean exact. The only new additions in this years copy is new music and roster updates. To prove how exact of a copy this is all players that have a new team this season from free agency or traded all are wearing there old teams hat in there picture. Ichrio Suzuki who has been a Yankee for a while now, still has a mariners hat on. But it's not just him, many other players have old hats on.To me that's just inexcusable and plain lazy,No new game modes or any new gameplay upgrades as well, from all the games I played the players faces all look exact as well from last year. Also 100% of the achievements are the same as 2k12. All 50 of them are the same.Gameplay-7.5It's not bad, but I have encountered a few bugsCommentary-9They really haven't added much new lines, but it's still really good.Graphics-7Personally I think the stadiums look great and so does the field but players look disgusting.Music-10I loved the music in 2k12, and I love the music in this game as well.Upgrades from 2k12-5Like I said exactly the same.Overall-7To be honest I was hoping for more, I know it was announced late but come on. They could have done some thing. I just hope they fix this series on the next Xbox or I will buy ps4 strictly for the show.

This game still has the best pitcher/hitter showdown of any baseball game
I used to play baseball, so baseball games are my favorite. My favorite baseball games are MLB 2000 and triple play 2001 on ps1, high heat 2003 and MVP 2004 on ps2, MLB the show 2010 and 2012 and MLB 2k11. While the show is the complete package for baseball fanatics I feel the pitcher/hitter interface is boring. This is the biggest part of the game and 2k sports has excelled at this since 2k7. 2k sports pitcher/hitter interface is extremely fun and exciting. The rest of the game of fielding and base running are easy to execute as well. This game is not as hard ad the show and will appeal to casual players and baseball fans looking for a fun baseball game. MLB today and MLB season link ups via the Internet are back and a lot of fun to interact with. The graphic look good, although the show blows this game away in this area. 2k has the best commentary of any sports game out there, I just wish there were more sounds from the stadium. This year there is a post season mode, which is also an addition to the show. One big disappointment in the years games is that I don't see any big changes from last years game in this game or the show. I usually alternate each year between the two games when I purchase, but will rent both before buying. I went with 2k13 this year because one Im a rays fan and two i purchased the excellent MLB the show 2012 last year. As I noted earlier my three favorite baseball games this generation are the show 2010 & 2012 and MLB 2k11. I am also really liking MLB 2k13 this year.
